Learning Through Community Involvement
Meet Anisha
Meet Anisha, a Year 12 student at Good News Lutheran College. Born to Indian parents, Anisha was raised in Australia and speaks and understands Tamil. Her academic pursuits include Psychology, Mathematical Methods, Physics, Chemistry and English Language, and she aspires to study aerospace engineering at RMIT or Monash University.

Anisha's fascination with aircraft and systems began a couple of years ago after reading a newspaper article about aerospace. This interest led her to join the Air Force Cadets at the RAAF Base in Point Cook. Beyond her academic and career ambitions, Anisha enjoyed singing and has played basketball for eight years, although she has paused her athletic pursuits to focus on her studies. She continues to sing and dance at cultural events, showcasing her talent and love for music.

Anisha came across a youth collaborative role on the Wyndham Library Services website. Thanks to the flexible interview process, she secured the position and now serves as a dedicated Volunteen. Every fortnight on Friday afternoons, she collaborates for 1.5 hours with other young people from local schools, pitching ideas and contributing to community projects. Her commitment to the community earned her the title of Young Person of the Month with the Council Youth Services.

Anisha's involvement extends to supporting the Young Scientist Competition and participating in various community activities. Despite the challenges of balancing her time between her studies, volunteer work, and spending time with each of her parents, she manages to prioritise and manage her commitments effectively. She is also learning to drive and enjoys the new experience.

As a member of her School’s Leadership Team as a Secondary School Arts Leader, Anisha promotes school culture through events like Harmony Day, organising arts events, crafts, music, and dance activities. She recently attended a positive leadership conference in the city, where she connected with 2000 students from different schools in Melbourne. The experience left her awestruck, resonating with stories about leadership and providing her with valuable tips and inspiration.

Anisha hopes to secure a Women in STEM scholarship through her university application. To boost her chances, she is teaching herself the basics of coding in JavaScript. Her mother’s cousin supports her through the Space Kids India initiative, further fuelling her ambition.

Anisha’s journey is a testament to her dedication, passion, and resilience. She is not only a promising future aerospace engineer but also a role model for her peers, demonstrating the power of balancing academic pursuits with community involvement and personal interests.
